This is a good question. 

Initially, I don’t think Damon would’ve fallen in love with Elena. It is true that her looks are what got his attention, but as time moved on Damon really saw what was under her pretty face. She wasn’t just a carbon copy of Katherine, she was warm, caring, and loving and he fell in love with that. There are key moments in the show where you’ll see Damon realizes Elena is not Katherine. One of my favorite Delena moments is when they’re in the kitchen in 1x03 where Elena expresses her apologies to Damon for losing Katherine. I think thats when he first realized this girl isn’t Katherine, and thats when he started to fall in love with her. 

Damon doesn’t love Elena because she looks like Katherine, he loves her because she is his everything. Elena brings out the best in Damon and thats who Damon fell in love with. He fell in love with this sweet adoring girl who literally stole his heart. 

I don’t know what all of you are so confused about Elena feeding off of Damon.

Oh god, Delena. 

I’ve never seen two characters written to be more perfect for each other. Ever. Damon and Elena are as simple as two puzzle pieces perfectly fitting together. Even if they don’t end up together in the end (lord have mercy) I will always know that no matter what they were each other’s other perfect half. The imperfections that their relationship holds is exactly why they are so perfect and so brilliant to watch. Their struggle, their triumphs and their journey are the most amazing thing to watch and the writers have done (almost indirectly I feel) an unbelievable job perfecting these two characters and molding them into this firestorm of a relationship. They have the almost unobtainable spark that most other characters in shows like this lack, but they have it and somehow even if the coldest of scenes they remain vigilant and fiery. Elena makes Damon feel these emotions he almost thought impossible to ever endure again, but she has somehow managed to bring about this gentle man that was buried under layers and layers of self-loathing, a mountain of regret and an unbelievable amount of disgust for his own kind. She makes his existence worth it. Seeing her shining face every day, loving her every moment of her life, hanging on her every word, and just being able to watch her grow and live and love everything. And thats what love is, love isn’t just about being with the person in a relationship and having them; its about what you feel for them. Despite Damon not being able to fully have Elena, to not be able to call her his own; he is happy with just being able to be in her life. Thats true love, true love does not walk away when things get tough, and even though Damon will have to watch Elena love and be with someone else, he’ll continue to be in her life. He won’t do it to make it more difficult on her, he won’t do it to get back at her, he’ll do it because he loves her. Damon knows that he brings out the fire in this girl, the girl who all but seems bland to him, but seemingly lacks the passion she once desired to anyone else. He sees right through her small town girl front, he sees how powerful her love is, and how powerful it is to love her. She’s a force Damon cannot help but be drawn to, like a moth to a flame. Elena would not be the girl we know and love if it weren’t for Damon. Their relationship is built on sole trust alone, and to put it lightly that is the foundation of every relationship. However, trust is not easily earned and in Damon’s case it took him almost two years to earn her trust, but it was worth it. Damon knows it was worth it in the end because now and for the first time ever, someone gives a damn about him. No one has ever cared about Damon like Elena has, not even his brother. No one’s love can compare to Elena’s love for Damon. 

Damon and Elena’s relationship can only be described as a wildfire that cannot be contained no matter how much either party may try to suppress their feelings. It’s a love that we may never be close enough to watch but we will always know its there, burning away at them until finally they can no longer take the heat. 

My best friend Melissa is a major inspiration in my life. It may not seem like it, but we’re attached at the hip most of the time. I practically live at her house. But besides her being my sister in a sense, my best friend is a terrific artist who blows me out of the water by miles. She’s determined and inspired and watching her do what she does gives me the inspiration to keep doing what I’m doing. I’ve always been really interested in art but when I met Melissa it was as if my drive for art got multiplied tenfold. I owe her a lot when it comes to my art, and when it comes to the person I am today as well. That credit goes to her and her family, though. 

He never told her. 

He never felt like he had to tell her. If she had known, who knows what should would have done or what their relationship would be like. He never told her, because he never felt like he had to use that to get closer to her. He never had to use that memory to get on her good side again, just like the Rose memory. Every good thing Damon has ever done doesn’t need an audience, and he honestly doesn’t want one. He wants everyone to accept him for who he is, good and bad; not just focusing on “well he did this one good thing.” no. He wants Elena to love him for every single thing he’s about, not just his good moments, for his bad vampire moments, he’s childish sarcastic moments, and most of all his lovingly overprotective moments. Stefan is quick to tell Elena all the good he has done, because he feels like if he doesn’t he’ll never be able to get the girl. In 1x11 Stefan told Elena he saved her from the crash because he felt like he was losing her. He was afraid that if he didn’t give her a major reason for her staying, he’d lose her right then and there for not being honest with her. Yet, every time Damon has slipped up or fallen short he has never used his good deeds as a reason for Elena to forgive him or trust him again. He’s never had to use them like a score board, “Well yesterday I did this so even if I hurt someone today, I can use this to show her I’m still good.” Damon doesn’t treat Elena like a trophy, and won’t ever use his good deeds against her. Damon has done beautifully selfless things and has never had to tell Elena about them to get on her good side. Never, not once. 

Damon met Elena first, and he never even told her. This small memory that Damon had completely rewrites their history, and I will never get past that. 

I don’t think her choice is going to actually happy, really. I mean maybe she’ll make her choice but obviously something is going to get in the way and cause it to be sidestepped because we can’t have her making that definitive of a choice this early on. I think that Elena won’t be able to truly choose a Salvatore till she realizes which one is better for her, and lord knows she hasn’t figured that one out yet. 

I think that Elena is good for Damon, we’ve seen it throughout the series. She changes him, in a good way. She is his humanity, so when people say that Damon is too good for Elena, I kinda laugh because they both fuck up a lot. Both of them have their screw ups, both of them fight each other and both of them aren’t always right, but they both come from a place thats genuine and loving. Damon deserves Elena without question because he deserves someone who loves him, and Elena is that for him. He deserves someone who is going to go up to bat for him, and fight for him because thats what he’s wanted all along. I truly believe that Elena is that for him because she’s been the only one on Damon’s team since day one. Give or take a few episodes where she’s fought him off and claimed to not be his friend, she still ends up defending him.

Elena, above anyone else, even Damon’s own brother; is the only who is always going to know that there is an amazing, loving man under all the fangs, blood and sarcasm. Thats why they deserve each other, because they’re the perfect fit. Twin flames in the truest sense of the term. 

I think on either side of this ship war, both ships can get a little crazy. Delena fans can also be extremely aggressive, so it works both ways. I think both reasons are idiotic because everyone is allowed to ship who they want, regardless of others agreement or disagreement. Stelena and Delena fans can also both be pretty understanding and welcoming to the other party. For example, I’d like to say I’m pretty good friends with the ever so lovely Eunice (for-bittenlove) and shes a Stelena shipper. She follows me and I follow her. We don’t ever fight over our ships, she doesn’t come to me and pick arguments about certain scenes or episodes and neither do I. It is perfectly possibly for Delena and Stelena fans to coexist here on tumblr, its just immaturity gets in the way of that sometimes.

Its Nina, that much I’m fairly certain of. Its strange but the fandom can pretty much tell thats her just from that split second. Whether or not its him imagining her while he’s being tortured, so he doesn’t have to think about the pain, or its Elena taking care of Damon while he’s recovering from said torture, or its Sage making him imagine its Katherine? Sage has those weird powers so who knows- also I’m pretty sure we’re NOT going to get a kiss, because I highly doubt they’d show that kinda scene in the promo.

“Just focus on me Damon, it’s okay.” Damon choked back a knot of blood in his throat, “I can’t Elena..I can’t it hurts, it hurts so much.”

“Shh Damon, focus on me. I’m here, right in front of you. Focus on me.” Damon rested his forehead against hers and he breathed her in, body and soul, while he tried to focus on her instead of the burning sensation erupting from his sides and chest.

“Elena..” Damon’s voice cracked as he tried his hardest to stare at her beautiful doe eyes.

“I’m here Damon, I’m here and you’ll get through this because I need you. I need you so badly and its because I need you that you have to get through this.” Her voice was calm and sounded like music to his ears. A sweet melody he had forgotten existed until this very moment, when his ears finally picked up on it and his entire being was flooded with how lovingly she said his name.

Damon’s logical side reared its head briefly, telling him she wasn’t really there. Telling him that he was imagining all of this while Rebekah continued to skewer him like a marshmallow.

“Damon.” Elena stroked his cheek softly, reminding him that even if this was his imagination he didn’t give a damn. “I’m going to protect you now. For once in my life I’m going to take your pain away.”

I’ve shipped Delena every since the kitchen scene in 1x03 Friday Night Bites; where she says, “I’m sorry. You lost her too.” Its not their most prominent scene ever, but that’s when I noticed a major shift, although not acknowledged until 1x11 Bloodlines, in Damon. If you watch the scene carefully you’ll see Damon is completely thrown back by Elena’s outright empathy for his loss of Katherine, and up until that moment; Damon believed that there wasn’t another creature in the world that cared about him. He never believed that someone would understand that it wasn’t just Stefan that lost the woman he loved back in 1864, but that Damon lost her too. Damon’s always been secondary, never been the one people thought of, his feelings were always on the back burner and for the first time in his life; Damon felt a tinge of hope for himself because the woman standing in front of him not only acknowledged that he was/had hurt from Katherine’s “death” but that she understood it.

I could never hate Stelena. Its one of the major ships in the show. Its as simple as I don’t ship it, really. I never have. When I first started watching the show, despite Damon’s evil demeanor, I fell in love with his character at first sight, and I’ll tell you right now it was about 50% character and 50% Ian. Its not that I didn’t love Paul, because trust me Paul was right up there with Ian as all, but something about Damon’s character really just captured me. So I was in tuned with his emotions and his needs as a character more so than Stefan at that point, which still drives me to see Damon being the brother that finally feels like he is chosen above his brother.

I wanna think that the writers are trying to trick us and that shes going to show up and shock all of us. I miss Kat, far more than I think anyone realizes, but if her not being around is keeping her alive- I’m okay with that. Plus, I’m sure its tough for Nina to play both of them all the time. In S2 Nina looked like she lost loads of weight and looked really worn out from all that work, and I don’t think the writers wanna put that pressure on her again.
